(More customer reviews)I purchased the Stroboframe Quick Flip flash bracket kit from Cameta Camera through Amazon. The kit was packaged well and shipped quickly. The main reason I purchased the kit was because the hot shoe bracket on my Olympus E-520 had loosened, so my Metz 48 AF-1 external flash would not sit tightly. So, this kit was an inexpensive way to safely secure the flash to the camera. The kit consists of the Stroboframe bracket and a shoe cord from Zeikos.
On my first shoot with the bracket, everything was working fine while I had the camera straight up for landscape shots. The first time I turned the camera sideways for a portrait shot, the flash mount portion of shoe cord came apart, causing the flash to fall off the camera. Luckily, I caught the flash so it wasn't damaged, but the cord was no longer usable.
I contacted Zeikos - the manufacturer of the cord - and explained what happened. They sent a replacement cord after charging me for &4.95 for shipping.
I've used the flash with the new cord twice thus far and although I'm scared to turn the camera sideways, it hasn't broken yet. However, I have learned that the focus-assist lamp on my flash unit does not work when it's mounted to the Zeikos cord.
But overall - as a cheap alternative to sending my camera out to have the hot shoe mount repaired - it's not bad.
Summary:
The bracket works as advertised. It mounts to the camera through the tripod nut and allows the flash to stay upright when turning the camera.
The Zeikos cord works, but not well. Questionable construction and it doesn't allow the focus-assist lamp to operate. Zeikos customer service however, was courteous and helpful.
