(More customer reviews)The plate works nicely with a Canon EOS 7D, and (I assume) with the specific models cited in the manufacturer's description.
However, it does NOT work with a Canon 40D. To keep the camera from twisting, plate has a small lip that cups the bottom edge of the back of the camera. Unfortunately the 40D has a row of buttons on that bottom edge (just below the LCD), and the twist plate covers up (and presses into) those buttons.
I suspect that means the plate won't work with a 50D either.
