The Magic Arm really helps you to find and hold that exact spot.The locking mechanism is excellent and very firm.Pair it with a ball head and you have pretty much unlimited positioning for your camera or lighting.
Worth a bit more than other solutions out there, but you get what you pay for.I would not trust my camera equipment to other similar products.
