(More customer reviews)I installed this unit on a Dell Dimension, and had plenty of cable. (Some of the other adaptors I looked at came with only 1 foot of cable, and I was concerned about being able to route around my other PCI devices.) I had to enable the SATA plug on the motherboard. (This is accomplished in the BIOS) If your computer does not recognize your external hard drive, check the BIOS setting before assuming that there is a problem with the transition cable.
There was a slight problem with the mounting bracket; the slot that fits over the pin of the computer frame was a little too small. I was able to spread the slot enough to get the bracket mounted.
